My First NHL Shield Card

This is long overdue, as this arrived quite a while ago, but back in early January a bubble mailer arrived via Registered Mail that I knew was something worth the price I paid! For the longest time, I’d seen this card on the 2009/2010 Cup Checklist, but had never seen it surface, so of course I wondered if it had ever even been made. Even asking UD staff on hobby forums never got me an answer…but I got my answer between Christmas and New Year’s when I was doing one of my daily “Kaberle” searches…the 09/10 Dual NHL Shields Kessel-Kaberle had, in fact, been made, and it was now being sold on eBay!!

Knowing that there are some pretty hard-core Kessel collectors out there, I had to wait and set a price I was willing to pay and be patient…wasn’t sure how high it would go. I also don’t have a ton of experience on these rare items, as my main players had never had one up until this one. Anyway, I set my price limit in my mind, and then went and set my snipe bid. All I had to do, then, was wait a few days to see what happened.

Well, without further adieu…it’s obvious that I did win it (and a few bucks under my limit), so here it is…the cornerstone of my collection now (it slightly edges my 1/1 RC parallel that I’ll show in another post)!

Here we go…

Hi everyone!

Welcome to Kev…Kaberle…Cards! I’m “Kev” and this is hopefully the start of a long journey together where I can share my own personal trading card collections, as well as meet others who share in the hobby. I will also use this site as a showcase for general hobby news and information that I feel is interesting.

A little bit about me…although if you look up a bit, you can click that big “About” button under the site name…that will give you a more detailed history if you care to read it. I’ve been back in the collecting hobby for several years now, and have amassed what I will honestly say is likely the best Tomas Kaberle collection out there. Tomas was always my favourite Toronto Maple Leaf from his first game until his last one in the 2010/11 season before being dealt to the Boston Bruins. I continue to pick up the cards I need when I see them, but they are getting scarce, so recently I started a collection of another young Leaf defenceman – Keith Aulie – to keep me going when I can’t find a Kaberle card I need. A couple of side projects also include Family Guy autograph cards, as well as a new Brett Lawrie (Toronto Blue Jays 3rd Baseman) collection. I am also slowly working on a binder of all Topps (Series 1/ 2/ Rookies & Traded) Blue Jays team sets from their inception into Major League Baseball onwards…definitely a long-term project!

I also have a part-time home business of selling cards. I love “meeting” customers and learning who and what they collect and helping them get closer to their goals in the hobby as well.

So enough of an introduction…I want the blog to take shape on its own, so to speak…some posts will be hobby industry news, some will be cards in my collection, and some will just be random “nattering” from Yours Truly. I will attempt to post at least once a day, so check back often or follow the blog and get updates automatically!
